CCL completes work on Sky Gate, one of the tallest buildings in Beirut

We’ve completed our work on the 42-storey Sky Gate residential development, one of the tallest buildings in Lebanon’s capital city, Beirut.

Sky Gate sits on the highest point of the Achrafieh district, and comprises four offset cubical elements constructed between two existing buildings, to create a “harmonious and unconventional” design.

These four cubical blocks are offset from right to left from levels 10/11 to 17/18 and then again from 20/23 to the roof.

CCL has worked for three years with the main contractor, MAN Enterprise, on the design and installation of post-tensioned cantilever beams for the “staggers” of the cubical elements.

By stressing the transfer beams at levels 10/11 in phases, CCL was able to remove the need for propping all the way down to the basement levels and so reduce the cost of shoring.

During the construction process several challenges had to be overcome such as designing technical floor transfer beams for levels 10/11 to carry the weight of the second block above during construction.

Residents living above level 25, which is when Sky Gate rises above its neighbouring buildings, will have a 360 degree view of Beirut.

Sky Gate designer Nabil Gholam Architecture & Planning won an international award at the MIPIM property event for its distinguished design.

The developer, MENA Capital, is behind several other high-profile developments in Lebanon including Ibrahim Sursock Residences, Hochar Tower and Qoreitem Gardens.
