CCL is currently working on the Qatar Petroleum District in Qatar. The aim of the development is to serve the financial sector on a local, regional and global scale. It will house conference centres, retail outlets, hotels and restaurants, within ten buildings each with 20 to 25 floors on average, and will have a 45 storey high tower as the focal point.
CCL Qatar, which has successfully undertaken many large scale projects in the region, installed 500,000sqm of post-tensioning in the development.
Technical support has been provided from the initial concept stage and a preliminary post-tensioning scheme was produced. This, together with the Company’s extensive fleet of equipment, which can be mobilised quickly, and its ability to respond promptly to any technical issues, were key factors in the company being awarded the project.
During the last month of construction, several late changes were requested, which required the opening of some of the slabs and the cutting of tendons. CCL Qatar was able to successfully complete all of the modifications, demonstrating the flexibility of post-tensioning and its ability to accommodate subsequent alterations.
Throughout the project CCL Qatar carried out changes to the design, in parallel to the construction process, incurring no delays and meeting the client’s requirements in a satisfactory and professional manner. The Company has been working on the project since the end of March 2009 and the District has a completion time of three and a half years.
The Qatar Petroleum District is located 20 minutes away from Doha International Airport and the complex is being built to be eco-friendly and self-sustainable wherever possible. In summarising the project, Barwa state that it is a place where no luxury or service has been forgotten, no detail overlooked and no effort spared.
