We are pleased to announce the opening of a new CCL office in Colombia. Located in Bogotá, CCL Colombia will service the Colombian market and enhance CCL’s coverage of South America.
Colombia is located in a seismic zone in the Pacific ‘Ring of Fire’, a 25,000 mile (40,000 km) horseshoe-shaped area of intense volcanic and seismic activity that follows the edges of the Pacific Ocean. Because of the high seismic activity, post-tensioning has been used extensively in civil projects throughout the country for many years.
Post-tensioned concrete is recognised as a standard building system in the most severe earthquake areas. The thinner, lighter slabs achieved by post-tensioning reduce the weight of the structure which in turn reduces the seismic force. This can result in smaller foundations, smaller lateral resisting elements and smaller columns/walls. As a result, the amount of excavation required can be reduced and the available floor space increased.
The new operation will be managed by José María Espinosa.
