Spiroll, part of the CCL group of companies, has been working on an exciting product development and revealed all at this year’s Bauma exhibition with the introduction of the new Vortex extruder.
The Vortex combines Spiroll’s own technology and experience with that of Dynacore Equipment Canada Limited, who were acquired by Spiroll in a 2014 move.
This new development represents more than 50 years’ worth of manufacturing expertise and product refinement, marking the latest milestone for hollowcore slab extrusion technology.
The Universal Power Unit, found in the previous generation of Spiroll extruders, is incorporated in the new Vortex. This allows slab depths to be changed – between 150 mm and 400 mm – in just 10 minutes.
Designed with efficiency in mind, the Vortex uses a patented replaceable auger end system which allows the 25% of the auger most susceptible to wear, to be replaced on the extruder itself. This avoids the need to remove the auger body, mandrel and follower tubes, helping to effectively minimise downtime and significantly reduce the costs of spare parts.
Dynacore compaction has also been used here for the first time outside a Dynacore machine. This feature moves the 12000 rpm vibrator motors inside the forming mandrels, which reduces noise levels, results in fewer moving parts and allows vibration to be delivered more directly to the concrete.
The use of static follower tubes creates slab profiles with the highest possible efficiency, to improve shear capacity, reduce material usage and produce a lighter self-weight.
Other design changes include an improved hopper shape to aid the flow of concrete, improved access and visibility for maintenance, and a PLC system that provides total control over essential machine settings via a touch-screen interface.
