CCL designed all suspended horizontal floor plates and reinforced concrete core slabs for this new world-class translational research centre in Glasgow. The company also supplied and installed its XF post-tensioning system.
Consisting primarily of laboratories the building will provide both the University of Glasgow and the Beatson Institute for Cancer Research with a state-of-the-art research centre.
The sensitive nature of the laboratory environments required vibration analysis which was undertaken by CCL. The results of the analysis ensured the laboratory slabs were designed to minimise the effects of vibration and ensure the scientific equipment remains unaffected when the building is in use. The company included a structural screed to dampen the effects of any vibration and control deflections.
CCL also specified the use of starter bars so that moment could be transferred into the supporting precast columns to ensure the most efficient slab design.
The building received an ‘excellent’ BREEAM rating.
