CCL designed and installed the post-tensioning on this large regeneration project forming part of Epsom Railway station.
The project is a mixed-use, mid-rise building incorporating residential, parking and hotel facilities. The company designed the horizontal floor slabs for levels one to seven, and supplied and installed its XF post-tensioning system on site.
CCL’s objectives were to create flat soffits in this long-span residential structure, which in traditional construction would require the use of downstand beams, speed up construction and reduce reinforcement deliveries because the site is adjacent to live railway lines. In order to meet the requirements the company proposed a post-tensioned flat-slab solution.
The slabs featured cantilevered balconies and the structure also included inclined columns in some locations. The versatility of post-tensioning was able to accommodate a number of post-cored openings within the slabs required because of changes to M&E coordination.
