Mayflower Halls forms part of the University of Southampton and is a multi-storey, multi-block new student residential development. The building will accommodate 1,100 students and will include a convenience store and onsite gymnasium.
CCL undertook the design, supply and installation of all horizontal superstructure elements for block A levels 5 to 13, and block B levels 3 to 17.
The company’s main objectives were to provide a value engineered solution, minimise slab thickness and limit deflections to suit architectural requirements.
Throughout the structure the post-tensioned flat slab solution was typically 200 mm thick.
Block A typically had three concrete pours per level and a pour strip and construction joint used to accommodate the voids and building cores.
A construction joint in block B was used to divide the structure into two separate buildings. Typically two pours were carried out at each level.
