The New International Airport of Crete at Kastelli is a landmark infrastructure project that will significantly enhance connectivity and support economic growth across the region. Designed to accommodate increasing passenger traffic and provide a modern travel experience, the airport is a vital addition to Greece’s national transport network. CCL was engaged to deliver a post-tensioned slab solution as part of the structural works for the terminal buildings.
CHALLENGE
The development required the construction of large-span slabs across two terminal blocks while maintaining structural efficiency and buildability. With a total post-tensioned slab area of 75,000m², the challenge was to optimise
the structural design, coordinate with fast-paced construction, and ensure durability in a demanding infrastructure environment.
SOLUTION
CCL provided a complete post-tensioning package, including the preparation of detailed shop drawings, supply of the post-tensioning system, and on-site supervision of works. Each terminal block comprised six slabs, all constructed using CCL’s high-performance systems. CCL’s experienced engineers worked closely with the contractor to ensure quality and programme targets were achieved.
