The Patuxent Water Reclamation Facility in Anne Arundel County, Maryland, USA has recently undergone a major upgrade.
Water quality infrastructure providers, Ulliman Schutte, are have constructed new containment structures within the facility and refurbished existing tanks. They called on CCL to undertake waterproofing installation services to nine of the structures.
Following preparation of the surfaces of the tanks CCL carried out inspections to ensure the surfaces were ready to receive the waterproof coating. After a final cleaning
of the surfaces CCL applied a crystalline waterproofing system designed to react with water and unhydrated cement particles and form crystals to fill micro-cracks in the concrete. This in turn blocks potential routes for water and waterborne contaminants.
Application of the system will help to reduce long-term repair and maintenance costs and extend the life of the structure.
Before the waterproofing began, the tanks were tested for leakage. CCL carried out concrete repairs to any of the vessels which displayed signs of water seepage.
