The project involved the installation and execution of vertical post-tensioning using CCL XV tendons and active CCL XM anchors, incorporating 15 tons of strands. The aim was to address the structural demands of a test rig designed to evaluate the capacity of windmill wings. The dynamic nature of these tests, particularly the significant cantilever effect, created substantial structural challenges that required innovative solutions.

CHALLENGE

The main challenge was managing the high tension in the concrete walls due to the significant cantilever effect caused by testing windmill wings. The small structure presented additional difficulties in fitting the required number of tendons, while ensuring the post-tensioning system could handle the dynamic forces. The design constraints also demanded a careful balance between tendon placement and mild reinforcement.

SOLUTION

To address these challenges, concrete strength was increased, allowing for smaller tendons and reduced anchor spacing. This optimisation enabled strategic tendon placement in areas with less dense reinforcement. Using CCL XV anchors allowed post-tensioning after the concrete pour, minimising extra reinforcement needs and simplifying the process while enhancing structural integrity.
