Cracks within a swimming pool required CCL intervention in order to seal the leaks and restore concrete integrity.
A new sports complex at the University of Birmingham aimed at providing world class facilities includes 12 badminton courts, six squash courts, gyms, a spa, a climbing wall and an Olympic swimming pool.
After construction of the new 50-metre swimming pool, cracks developed within the plenum wall. These were caused by concrete shrinkage, which resulted in water ingress from pool side and ground-bearing side, through the movement and construction joints into the plenum.
CCL located the cracks and drilled 16 mm holes at 45 degrees to each fissure to allow resin injection. Aqueous reactive resins were then pumped into the cracks to effectively fill the voids and prevent further leakage.
