CCL creates high quality finish, fair faced soffits with limited deflection for the complete re-build of The Crest Academy in London.
The academy is being re-built as part of a £40 m development program. The 18,800 sq. m site will comprise four separate buildings, one for girls, one for boys and the other two central buildings will house specialist subjects and sports.
The company’s objective was to reduce costs with the savings in slab depth and the amount of reinforcement used compared to the original reinforced concrete slabs which were used on blocks one and four, whilst still maintaining the programme. As a result of this, a 250 mm PT slab was proposed compared to the 300 mm reinforced concrete slab.
CCL designed, supplied and installed their XF post-tensioning system for block two, level four and block three, levels 3-6. Block two, level four was supported by two large steel plate beams which deflect up to 50 mm in the long term. The design of the level four slab had to take into account this movement. Slab soffits were exposed throughout the structure and CCL achieved a high quality finish with limited deflection.
