Developed by Sport England and Loughborough University, SportPark is an £11.5 million complex, which is home to the English national governing bodies of various sports, providing office space, storage areas and sports facilities.
Completed in 2009, the SportPark provides accommodation in a reinforced concrete-framed three-, four- and five-storey building complex. Each building is linked through glazed circulation spaces and provides the opportunity for shared practice and joint working. The project will cement Loughborough’s international reputation as one of the world’s great centres of sporting excellence.
Baggaley Construction, the main contractor, awarded the project to Northfield Construction, who commissioned CCL to undertake the post-tensioning design and installation element of the project. The majority of post-tensioning companies in the UK tendered for this project, however it was awarded to CCL due to the competitive price point combined with a high-quality package in terms of system, service and client support throughout this stage of the process.
CCL was commissioned to supply, install, stress and grout all the required post-tensioned slabs, using the bonded XF system, one of the important aspects of this project was CCL’s ability to create staple-free post-tensioned slabs, as soffits were to be fair-faced exposed concrete.
