Energy-positive building goes PT

May 16, 2017

CCL has been awarded the contract for the design and supply of post-tensioned slabs for the first energy-positive commercial building in Norway.

The Powerhouse Brattøra in Trondheim, which will have an area of 15,000 m2 over eight floors and a basement, is designed to produce more environmentally-friendly energy than it consumes.

CCL Post-tensioned Slabs were the preferred method of construction because of their ability to deliver longer spans and speed up the construction schedule, which in turn provide cost savings and reduce CO2 emissions. The unusual shape of the building also meant that post-tensioning’s capacity to deal with complex geometry was another important factor.

CCL Norway and CCL group company, Thilt Engineering, will be working in close collaboration with Skanska Norway, Sweco Norway and Snøhetta Architects on this pioneering structure. Execution of the PT slabs will be overseen by CCL, who will have a supervisor present on site throughout the installation process. The project is due to be completed in February 2019.
