Reverse engineering helps shape solution

Medore is a 41-storey mixed-use building in the Jumeirah Lake Towers district of Dubai. Construction began in 2010 but was halted at level seven.

During 2020, CCL was engaged to carry out feasibility studies for major architectural changes and to complete the remaining floors of the structure using post-tensioning.

CCL’s studies revealed the need for repair and strengthening of slabs and columns and, in the absence of structural models, CCL undertook reverse engineering to recreate the as-built condition.  The company then presented a solution to the client which was cost-efficient while having minimal impact on the architecture and services.

After completing the concrete repairs and strengthening using a range of techniques including concrete and steel column jacketing, external post-tensioning and CFRP, CCL went on to install post-tensioned slabs on floors 8 to 39.
