Solar panels installed as CCL reduces carbon footprint
Solar panels have been installed onto the existing roof at CCL’s manufacturing plant in Leeds, UK, as part of the Company’s ongoing campaign to reduce its carbon footprint and power consumption.
The 20kWp system was put in place in June 2012 and will provide around 6% of electricity consumption and save 7.242 CO² tonnes per year.
A display monitor is installed in CCL’s reception area to highlight the effectiveness and benefit of the solar panels to staff and visitors.
Paul Walker, Production Manager at the Company, said: “Solar is a vital source of future energy supplies because not only is it clean, it’s remarkably abundant. We will save between 15% and 20% on our energy consumption, with a payback period of seven years based on current electricity costs.”
Other measures taken to improve CCL’s energy consumption include the installation of low voltage lights and a voltage regulator, both of which were installed in January 2012 and have reduced usage by 30-40kVA. Since 2006, the Company’s total electricity consumption has decreased by 40%.
